We went to Underwood Family Farms  for our Monday date night this week. They are about a 5 minute drive from where Taylor works, so I finally convinced him to go with me.  The original plan was to pick a bunch of veggies, and then come home to cook dinner with produce picked straight from the farm. But to tell you the truth, I was so pooped after this, we ended up drinking jamba juice and eating pre-frozen hash browns for dinner instead!

I've been reading up/listening to podcasts on locavorism (both for and against) these days, so all the talk of delicious and unique local produce had me itching to pick some local produce and see for myself.  I don't think I know enough about the complexities of the food production system in American to fully determine my own opinion on whether or not locavorism is good or bad for our environment as a whole; however, in terms of a personal experience, I did find it quite theraputic to spend an hour or so picking vegetables and learning about crops.  (If it was about 5 degrees cooler, I probably could have stayed out there for a lot longer!) There were definitely a lot of veggies that I didn't even know existed, and I can't wait to come home from work tonight and experiment with what we picked.

I love this idea for a date night! And I am the same way, I don't feel like I know enough about the complexities of our food production system but I do love being able to pick my fruits and veggies and bring them straight to my table. :) Lovely photos!

Lovely photos, Melody :D I went to a local farm a couple weeks ago and it was a fun experience! And I agree, it was quite therapeutic. I wish we had a wagon that day!

What camera did your use to take these photos if you don't mind me asking? I'm really itchin' to upgrade, haha.

Hahaha fresh veggies and frozen hash browns, that sounds like a me move. And that article you linked to? Two thumbs up; hilarious and interesting.

I am curious to know what you've found in you're explorations of Locavorism though, I'm also interested and dabbling around in that arena.

Melody!! These photos are so nice! :D May I ask what type of lens you use?? I'm interested in getting the really stark bokeh that you've got in some of those photos!! Like the one of the path strewn with ?tomatoes on either side. :D Very very nice.

Haha I like how you guys went out and picked veggies then ate hash browns for dinner. That's the way, girl. I would love to be able to pick my own fresh fruits and veggies!!

Wonderful pictures - by the both of you! Melody, here's a link to a book called Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. Her family spent an entire year living off their farm, and those of other local growers. It's a great book, with lots of info on locavorism and excellent recipes!
