ANNIVERSARY TRIP PART 3 // The Ace Hotel
10/9/12
OUR COOL HOTEL ROOM:
KING'S HIGHWAY
Here are some pictures we took during our stay at the Ace Hotel.
I had been wanting to go to Palm Springs for a really long time and was so excited to finally go. Even though it's known to be a party city, I just wanted to go so I could nerd out on all the modern architecture built during the mid century modern glory years of Palm Springs (also known as "California Modernism"). So many of my favorite designers and architects come from the modern era- Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn, and Ray and Charles Eames, to name a few.
I had planned to spend a day doing a bike tour to see the various homes, but it was just unbelievably scorching hot, so we spent the majority of our day at our hotel instead.
I felt kind of bad because Taylor was so excited to swim (he used to go to Palm Springs with his family every summer and kept telling me stories about swimming from morning til night and relaxing all day). But as soon as we got to the pool and saw the ridiculous herds of beautiful model-esque people walking everywhere, we got too intimidated and scurried off back to our room! We eventually worked up the courage to go to the quieter pool where people were reading, but it was still kind of awkward because we felt like we weren't allowed to talk and had to whisper the whole time!
Things didn't go totally as expected, but I still had fun because I was with Taylor and I'm thankful that we can still laugh at ourselves when we are in awkward situations

cool! I've always wondered what it would be like to stay at an Ace Hotel. we wanted to stay at the one in Portland, but decided at the time it wasn't worth it yet. and your post about Joshua trees! i lived right around there and they are so weird-looking!!
you guys are total hipsters!!! tell taylor to change his blog to sexyhipster. LOL.
and i love the picture of you jumping on the bed! you should totally enlarge that one! seriously!!!
Ohh no bad times about the swimming situations! Your photos are, as always, truly lovely. That pencil one at the bottom is great! What lovely souvenirs you have now. Wish I could hire you to take all my photos xxx
Looks like a nice hotel! I know what you mean with the swimming situation. When we went to Hawaii, it felt like we had gone to the beach on a Victoria's Secret catalog!
I wanna go to Palm Springs one day too. There's a lot in SoCal that I haven't explored yet!
This is the coolest hotel! I love these photos! And are those green pants? I love it.

you guys are too fun. and trendy. and i love what ruby said about taylor changing his blog name HAHAHAHA <3
Loving the photos as always, Melody :) Ace is such a cool hotel, reminds me a lot like the show Mad Men for some reason. Your jumping picture is so cute! Seriously, you both are such a fun couple.
What a hip hotel. At least you guys had fun. I totally understand the pool scenario. For me, I get very self-conscious when there are heaps of people at the pool and when you enter the area, you feel all eyes on you. I don't like that.
what an awesome place to go to for an anniversary trip!!

Oh Melody, your photos always impress me (/make me a little jealous of your skillz). This looks like such a cool place, and you capture it so well! Congratulations on another year of love! I look forward to seeing your post in another year. x
