I finally worked up the courage to pick some lemons off my lemon tree. I'm such a newbie "gardener" so I'm always scared to cut my fruits because I don't know if new ones will ever come back! I love lemons and am always putting them on anything and everything- water, sauteed veggies, fish, sauces, dressings... this time around I think I'm going to try to make something sweet.

SMALL SURPRISES

I could hardly believe my eyes last night when I went to water my plants. A tomato! I bought a tomato plant as an impulse buy from Safeway a few weeks ago, but was pretty skeptical it would actually produce any tomatoes. Our old apartment hardly got any sun, and my plants were always dying, so I was in utter shock when the plant not only stayed alive but actually produced a real life vegetable! I can't wait to see if there will be more coming, and finally get to start to cooking with them!

WINTER GARDEN

With the cold weather and lack of sun, my house plants have all been slowly moving from various parts of my apartment to a single spot underneath a window that gets the most light. I'm hoping they can survive the winter, and that I'll get to see a few flowers come spring!
